Every Region of Jamaica, Side by Side
Ordered by how real travelers plan — arrival airports first, then north coast, east, south, and inland.
North Coast
Montego Bay
Sangster International is the north-coast gateway, surrounded by Jamaica's all-inclusive resorts. MoBay is also the easiest access point for exploring the island, making it likely your first stop on a Jamaica trip.
North Coast
Ocho Rios
Cruise port and waterfall country. Dunn's River Falls and Mystic Mountain highlight the day-trip circuit. Ochi is where many cruise passengers decide if they enjoy Jamaica or just liked the ship.
West End
Negril
Seven-mile beach, Rick's Café sunsets, and boutique villas on Jamaica's west end offer a slower, more bohemian vibe than MoBay, by design. The building code limits hotel height to that of a palm tree.
South-East
Kingston
The capital features the Bob Marley Museum, Trench Town, Port Royal's pirate ruins, the Blue Mountains coffee drive, and the island's best food scene. Urban, unfiltered, and culturally essential — it's the part of the north coast that brochures overlook.
North Coast
Falmouth
Georgian-era cruise port with one of the Caribbean's most complete colonial streetscapes. Luminous Lagoon nearby, Good Hope Estate inland. A day in Falmouth is an honest history lesson — not a beach towel.
South Coast
South Coast
The anti-resort. Floyd's Pelican Bar, Appleton rum country, YS Falls, and Black River crocodile safari are where Jamaicans go for an unpackage deal experience. Community Tourism intentionally avoids large hotels.
East Coast
Port Antonio
The east end that time forgot. Rafting the Rio Grande, the Blue Lagoon, and the coast that invented "boutique Jamaica" before the word existed. Errol Flynn bought a hotel here in the 1940s; the vibe hasn't changed as much as you'd expect.
North Coast
Runaway Bay
Quieter cousin to Ocho Rios with the same north-coast access. Green Grotto Caves, Cardiff Hall, and low-key all-inclusives that dodge the cruise-ship overflow. The pick for Resort Guests who want the AI experience without four cruise ships a week.
Central Jamaica
Spanish Town
Jamaica's former capital showcases three centuries of colonial history, including the Spanish Town Cathedral and the Iron Bridge, America's oldest cast-iron bridge. It's a day trip from Kingston for history enthusiasts, offering experiences beyond typical resorts.
North Coast · Jamaica
Oracabessa
The birthplace of James Bond, Oracabessa is a hidden gem on Jamaica's north coast. Home to GoldenEye resort, vibrant Fish Sanctuary, and the stunning James Bond Beach — it offers an intimate escape far from the resort crowds.

About Treasure Beach After Melissa — This is a particularly good time to go
Treasure Beach took the direct hit in October 2025. Most signature experiences — Floyd's Pelican Bar, Jakes Hotel, YS Falls, Appleton — are operational or nearly restored. BREDS Foundation is coordinating community rebuild. If you were considering the south coast, your tourism dollars matter more there right now than in any other Jamaica region.

Common Questions
Jamaica Destinations FAQ
What is the nicest part of Jamaica to visit?
"Nicest" depends on what you actually want. For beaches, Negril's Seven Mile Beach is the classic pick — longest continuous beach, walkable end to end. For waterfalls, Ocho Rios is obvious — Dunn's River, Blue Hole, and Konoko all within 30 minutes. For boutique or authentic, Port Antonio and Treasure Beach each offer a different version. For culture, food, and urban energy, Kingston is unmatched and criminally under-visited. The regional guide above walks through each in detail.
What is the safest part of Jamaica?
The tourist corridors on the north coast (Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay, Falmouth, Negril) operate under heavy tourism-police presence with low crime rates comparable to other Caribbean destinations. Kingston and Spanish Town have higher statistics in certain neighborhoods, but the tourist districts (New Kingston, Port Royal, major cultural sites) are managed separately and safe with normal urban-travel awareness. The south coast (Treasure Beach and Port Antonio) is low-density, rural, and statistically among the safest regions on the island. The U.S. State Department maintains a Level 2 advisory for Jamaica as of 2026 — a blanket national advisory, not region-specific.
How many days do I need in Jamaica?
Minimum 4 days to escape the airport bubble and see more than your hotel. 7 days for a two-region pairing and real relaxation time. 10–14 days for anything approaching "the island" — which means including the south coast, Port Antonio, and Kingston alongside the north-coast regions. See the "How Many Days" section above for specific regional combos.
Is Jamaica open after Hurricane Melissa?
Yes. The north coast (MoBay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Runaway Bay) was largely outside the direct impact zone and has been fully operational since mid-November 2025. Kingston, Spanish Town, and Port Antonio are all operational. The south coast (Treasure Beach) took the direct hit — most signature attractions including Floyd's Pelican Bar, YS Falls, Appleton Estate, and Jakes Hotel have reopened, with community rebuilding ongoing. Visiting the south coast right now is one of the highest-impact tourism decisions you can make — your money goes directly into the rebuild.
Can I visit multiple regions of Jamaica in one trip?
Absolutely — and you should. Drive times between most region pairs run 90 minutes to 4 hours. Pair MoBay + Negril (90 min) for a beach-first week. Pair Kingston + the South Coast (2.5 hrs) for culture-and-nature. Pair Ocho Rios + Port Antonio for the north-coast-then-east-coast contrast. See the drive-time matrix in the "Getting There" section above for the full picture.
