Airport Guide

The Airport Most Visitors Overlook

Norman Manley International Airport sits on the Palisadoes peninsula — the same narrow sand spit that holds Port Royal, the former pirate capital. It's 20 minutes from New Kingston, 45 minutes from Spanish Town, and 2 hours from Port Antonio. Most visitors fly into MBJ because it's the most marketed option; KIN makes more sense for anyone heading to the capital, the Blue Mountains, Port Antonio, or the south coast, where MBJ is 4+ hours away.

KIN handles direct service from New York (JFK), Miami, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Toronto, London, and several Caribbean hubs. American Airlines, JetBlue, Caribbean Airlines, Cayman Airways, and Air Canada operate scheduled service. The terminal is smaller and calmer than MBJ — a quieter arrival experience, especially for travelers who find Sangster overwhelming during peak periods.

From KIN: Kingston city centre 20 minutes, Spanish Town 45 minutes, Port Antonio 2 hours, Ocho Rios 2.5 hours. The Blue Mountains are 45–60 minutes from the airport, making KIN the obvious base for coffee-farm and peak-hike itineraries. For Treasure Beach, KIN and MBJ are roughly equivalent at 2–2.5 hours.
