Airport Guide

Jamaica Begins at MBJ

Sangster International handles over 4 million passengers a year, making it Jamaica's busiest airport and the Caribbean's most important tourism gateway. It sits inside the city limits of Montego Bay — five to fifteen minutes from Hip Strip hotels and fifteen to twenty-five minutes from the Rose Hall corridor resorts. MBJ serves direct flights from New York (JFK, EWR), Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Toronto, London, and most major US/Canada/UK/Latin America hubs. American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, Air Canada, British Airways, and Caribbean Airlines all operate scheduled service.

The airport has two terminals — the main international terminal and a smaller domestic/regional terminal. On arrival, you'll clear immigration, collect bags, and exit into a well-organized arrivals hall. The process during busy periods runs 30–60 minutes. Club MoBay (~$60 USD) bypasses standard immigration queues with a dedicated lane, complimentary food and drinks, and a private meet-and-greet transfer service — worth it on arrival day, especially landing on a busy cruise-turnaround Saturday.

From MBJ: Negril 90 minutes west, Falmouth 45 minutes east, Ocho Rios 2 hours east, Kingston 4 hours east. The Rose Hall corridor is 15–25 minutes from the terminal. Most resort guests use private transfers booked through Island Routes; rental cars are available from Hertz, Avis, Budget, and Island Car Rentals. Left-hand driving applies throughout Jamaica.
